The election is over; we just don’t yet know the outcome. Did Trump win? Did Harris win? If she did, what is the nature of the protests by Trump and his minions? Violent?

I think Trump will win. The only good thing about that is we will be spared the disaster that will surely happen if he loses: claims of fraud, attempts to change the result, probably violence.

Why he will win is hard to figure. How can so many Americans vote for a convicted felon who is clearly unread, mean, not smart, and so on?

I have a theory: there is a large block of voters who passionately, though quietly, want to stick it to the liberals, to Progressives, to the social, financial, intellectual, and political elites, to Biden and democrats, to their neighbors supporting Harris, to anybody and nearly everybody. That is, my theory is that many Americans just want to stick it to somebody. Some of these people are mad, some are desperate, some just think it will be fun to shake things up. You know, let it all go to hell, and see what happens. Maybe they are bored.

I don’t know how large the “stick it to them” crowd is, but large enough in a close election to carry the day. The polls don’t know about them, of course. No-one says they want to “stick it to them” to a pollster. Anyway, the ‘stick it’ folks want to stick it to the pollsters, too.

When its over, if they win, the stickers may well find out, too late, that they are the ones who get stuck. Trump doesn’t really care about them – or anybody else. He wants to be in charge, probably a dictator. We’ll see.

Turmoil will certainly follow a Trump victory. Mass deportations, retribution for his political enemies, a new scale of government incompetence, tariffs. If you feel bad now, just wait.

The Democrats are largely responsible for Trump being able to win. There are plenty of smart, experienced Democratic politicians – governors, Senators, Congressmen, mayors – who would have had a better chance of beating Trump but they weren’t given a chance to run. No-one was given a chance except Biden and Harris. Not giving your best and most experienced people a chance to run is no way to pick the best person and win an election.

Harris can still win, though she would have to say some things she won’t say. She’d have to make a big important speech establishing a new, tough, border and immigration policy. Tougher than Biden’s, even tougher than Trump’s.

She won’t do that, of course.

She’d also have to find some really smart people and figure a way to do something about prices. Something actually effective, something that people believe will work. I have no idea what that is, but if she wants to win . . .

But she won’t do that, either.

She can’t win on “reproductive rights” alone. It’s a powerful issue but not powerful enough to trump (pun intended) immigration, the price of food and more, and the ‘stick it to them’ crowd.

If Trump loses, or even if he wins, I worry about the military. What will they do if ordered – illegally but still ordered – by the Commander-in-Chief to act against U.S. citizens?

It’s a strange time. Not since the publication of George Orwell’s 1984 in 1949 has the U.S. public been subjected to so much Newspeak from a Ministry of Truth, now Trump’s Ministry of “Truth”. Another reason he will win is that he gets away with all the untruths, conspiracy theories, and misinformation like the government did in 1984. Why is no prominent person who has the public’s trust countering this stuff as it happens? Maybe there is no such person? It can’t be left to MSNBC to do the job. Anyway, they are just too blatantly and constantly anti-Trump to be effective. And Trump probably likes the publicity since there is “No such thing as bad publicity.”
