My apologies. I apparently was taken-in by Ron DeSantis’ book {The Courage to be Free).
Since I posted the Jack’s Journal article on the book, DeSantis has shown his truer colors. First, he signed a gun law allowing Florida residents to carry concealed weapons without a permit. He signed the legislation behind closed doors in the governor’s office, with news of the bill-signing being released first to Fox News.
So, on the issue of guns, DeSantis has chosen the low road to the extreme right.
On abortion, DeSantis signed a bill banning abortion after six weeks of pregnancy. The law contains some exceptions, including to save the woman’s life. Abortions for pregnancies involving rape or incest would be allowed until 15 weeks of pregnancy, provided a woman has documentation such as a restraining order or police report.
So, on the issue of abortion, DeSantis has again chosen the low road to the extreme right.
It doesn’t appear that DeSantis has the courage to be free of Trump and Trumpism.
He is said to be getting ready to announce his candidacy for President. His strategy is apparently to be as far right as possible, as extreme as possible. Is this the way to beat Trump and the others in primaries for the nomination? Maybe, but I think Trump will love it — and beat him.
If DeSantis gets the nomination, is going extreme right the way to win the election? Probably not, if polls on issues are to be believed. But who knows? Elections are about a lot more than issues.
I wish DeSantis had chosen to go to the middle instead of to the extreme. The middle badly needs a leader. The slogan could be Make America United Again! Do none of the middle Republicans know how to lead? Isn’t there even one of them with the smarts, the convictions, the vision, the character, the confidence, and the desire to lead?
I guess not. Just Sayin’
